Cyfannol Women’s Aid are delighted to announce that Newport Women’s Aid has formally merged into their charity.
Newport’s VAWDASV support services will continue to be delivered from their existing Stow Hill office, adding a Newport base alongside Cyfannol’s sites in Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent.
The team at Cyfannol are excited to move forward with a greater presence across Gwent and a broad range of VAWDASV services that includes 36 refuge spaces, specialist community-based support and group-work services, as well as other key projects.
This merger brings together more than 80 years of collective experience in supporting individuals and families who have been affected by Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV). In total the charities supported more than 2000 people last year and, going forward, the merger will strengthen the provision of specialist services available to survivors in Gwent.
Combining the charities’ skills, resources and specialist knowledge cements Cyfannol Women’s Aid’s position as the leading provider of VAWDASV services in Gwent, with 36 refuge spaces and a wide range of services delivered within the community. Existing Newport-based projects will continue, delivering specialist support to families in which children have been affected by abuse, and working in partnership with Gwent Police to provide assertive outreach to victims of domestic violence.
The merged charities now have a combined workforce of more than 100 staff and volunteers, with increased opportunities for sharing expertise and building on existing successes to develop services.
