About Us:

Whole School Approach Project Worker (School-Based) -2 posts

Newport Mind is a mental health organisation based in the city of Newport (Casnewydd) in South Wales, UK. We are part of Local Mind Associations in England and Wales.

We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone.

We work for the better mental health of people in Newport by providing a range of services.

About the Whole School Approach (WSA) Project:

The WSA Project provides person-centred mental health support services to young people (aged 10-18) and the wider stakeholders of primary, secondary and alternative education provisions across Newport. This is achieved through the delivery of focused and school-wide interventions to young people, with the possibility of further intervention delivery for staff, parents and carers, depending on the needs identified by individual schools.

Job Role:

This role has the following aims:

  • To respond to the increasing mental health difficulties that young people are experiencing due of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • To improve the overall mental health and wellbeing of young people, and the wider school community
  • To increase knowledge of mental health and wellbeing and improve mental and emotional resilience, for young people and their communities.
  • To increase the number of young people managing their mental health without being referred to specialist higher tier services.

This will be achieved through the school-based delivery of focused and school-wide interventions to young people, with the possibility of intervention delivery for the wider school community (including staff, parents and carers) depending on the needs identified by individual schools.
