Summary:
We are looking for a creative and caring individual with a can-do attitude to work across our growing range of V21 Creating projects.
About Us:
V21 is a local charity with facilities across Cardiff, The Vale of Glamorgan and beyond. We support life-changing opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, our trainees, to realise their potential through: catering; growing; creating; learning and making initiatives. Many of these projects are social enterprises that provide training for people with learning disabilities and volunteering opportunities for others.
Job Role:
The successful candidate will join our V21 Creating team to cover staff absence and support our creative and commercial project development, ensuring that we consistently provide an excellent experience for our trainees and quality outcomes for our customers. Our V21 Creating department comprises our long established V21 Pottery and V21 Crafts @ Fairwater, our brand new ‘eco’ V21 Crafts @ Barry, and incorporates our seasonal V21 Holiday Arts project for young adults. We also have another fledgling Crafts sister-project that’s just launching, also at our Sbectrwm centre in Fairwater. There’s a lot of change and creating going on! As our V21 Creating Projects Cover Worker you may be working alongside a colleague one day helping to create ceramics in V21 Pottery, then leading our V21 Crafts trainees to make greeting cards and gifts the next. We might also ask you to lend a helping hand in V21 Woodwork or Gardening in an emergency – no day at V21 is the same! It is fun though, and very fulfilling. We put the happiness of our trainees at the heart of everything we do, and your main duty is to work together with us to ensure their needs are met.
When everyone is fit and available and we don’t need project cover, you will use your creative skills to support the team with their workload and project development. To achieve all of this a driving licence and use of a vehicle is essential, along with the ability to adapt and think on your feet to ensure everyone has a fun, creative and productive day.
Main responsibilities
- The provision of flexible cover for staff absences (holiday/sick leave) in various V21 Creating projects, plus emergency cover in other V21 projects and supporting Creating projects for specific pieces of work when cover is not required.
- To ensure that the individual training needs of the trainees are met.
- To co-operate with the Project staff in activities relating to the trainees and the commercial development of the Projects.
- Work with V21 trainees to produce sustainable crafted objects to sell online and via local craft sales events.
- Work in partnership with team colleagues to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of V21 Creating Projects, and contribute to the development of the projects as a member of the Creating Team.
