Summary:

Our Trustee Board is responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation, legal compliance, and financial oversight.

Applicants will be actively involved in shaping the organisations’ future and should be available to attend quarterly meetings in Bridgend (although occasional video conferencing is also possible).

About Emmaus South Wales:

Emmaus South Wales is a homelessness charity with a difference. We not only provide a bed but a reason to get out of it. We provide supported accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in our residential community based in Bridgend, South Wales.

Emmaus South Wales (ESW) is part of a global movement of charities with a shared ethos and theory of change. The Emmaus movement supports thousands of people each year globally, and over 850 ‘companions’ live in 29 UK Emmaus Communities. Each Emmaus community develops to meet the particular needs of its locality.

In the UK Emmaus has a focus on homelessness due to the scale of the problem and the fundamental impact homelessness has on every other aspect of life.

Our theory of change is that to lead happy and healthy lives people need 3 core things:

  • A home and a community where they are connected to others, are welcomed and supported.
  • Purposeful activity in which they can find self-worth, take pride, and be valued.
  • To support others in need, and opportunities to make a contribution.

ESW therefore provides a home within a supported community, along with meaningful work, learning, and opportunities that enable people to rebuild their self esteem, be valued, and make a contribution.

Job Role:

We would currently especially welcome applications from parties with a general legal background to help augment the Board’s all round professional knowledge and experience. Our trustees invariably find their roles rewarding and fulfilling working with the Emmaus community. (Details on the current members of the Trustee Board can be found at emmaus.org.uk/south-wales/join-us/become-a-trustee/our-trustees/).
