Summary:

Are you passionate about volunteer management and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Samaritans in a role which will lead the development and implementation of a strategy which will achieve a more diverse, inclusive culture.

This project will focus on Samaritans’ Welsh branches, but will also have a wider aim to embed the learning to the wider organisation.

About Us:

At Samaritans, our vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We believe it is preventable and that by working together we can give people the support they need before they reach crisis point. We are one of the most trusted charities in the UK and ROI, and we answer a call for help every six seconds.  We have around 175 staff and more than 20,000 volunteers based across 201 branches giving emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  We don’t just hear you, we listen.

Job Role:

We are looking for a manager who can:

  • Carry out and use research to build and implement a strategic plan to increase the diversity of volunteers at Samaritans’ Welsh branches
  • Using a community development approach, reach out and engage with members of under-represented groups to inform and develop this work
  • Capacity build and facilitate branches to implement this strategy for recruitment and retention of diverse volunteers
  • Build a robust monitoring and evaluation plan so that we can measure the impact of this work, and learn and embed good practice amongst branches across Wales, and ultimately, across the whole of Samaritans.

The successful candidate must have proven experience in leading and managing projects to deliver increased diversity and a strong culture of inclusion, together with an excellent knowledge and understanding of the full range of benefits of diversity within the voluntary sector.  We are also looking for excellent written and verbal skills, including report writing skills, solid critical thinking, strategic planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build working relationships and network.
