Cardiff & Vale Credit Union is a local not-for-profit financial services co-operative, offering ethical savings and loans products to our members.  We currently have around 10,000 adult and junior members, with combined savings of £5.5 million and a loan portfolio of £3.5 million. Working with 40 employers and 20 schools, we aim to make it easy for people to access our member-focussed financial services.

Due to exciting plans for further growth and development, we currently have new vacancies to join our ambitious and focussed Board of Directors.  We are looking for committed individuals who are passionate about fair finance, and can contribute to the strategic direction of our member-owned organisation.

What We Do:

Whether it’s saving for a rainy day or borrowing affordably for something planned like home improvement, or even unplanned like car repairs, we help our members make their money work for them.

Our business model is simple: our members save with us and we use their savings deposits to fund low cost responsible loans to members who want to borrow from us.  The interest repaid on those loans is then used to cover our costs and pay a dividend reward on members’ savings – no external shareholders, just ethical services for local people and keeping money in the local economy.

Voluntary Board Director Roles:

We are seeking applications from people with the following skills or relevant backgrounds:

  •  ICT
  • Finance/accountancy/banking
  • Legal
  • Communications/marketing
  • HR

This is a great opportunity for someone with the passion, capacity and expertise to help us drive our aim to create a revolution in ethical financial services, then we would love to hear from you.  The commitment is to attend a monthly board meeting (held on the third Monday evening of each month), and to engage in at least one sub-group of the Board, depending on interests and expertise.  Full training will be given as part of induction.

These voluntary roles are unpaid, but travel expenses can be reimbursed.  We welcome applications from anyone with the skills above, but particularly welcome applications from currently under-represented groups including women, younger people and those from BME communities.
